Why It's Fun to Lie

Updated: May 9, 2023

Some people might say that if you're a liar, you’re a bad person. But I think that if you’re a liar, then you are a fun person. You’re so creative that you can make up a completely different story than what actually happened. Something that throws others off the scent of the truth.

I love to lie. I lie every day. Depending on the day, I tell big lies and small ones. The small lies mostly look like this:

Teacher: “Did you do your homework.”

Me: “Yes”

Mom: “Did you feed the dogs?”

Me: “Yes”

These are what I like to call boring lies. Lies that aren’t that interesting to think of or listen to. On these days, I don’t feel funny because my lies of the day aren’t unique. They aren't cool or funny.

On my funny days, the lies look like this:

Friend: “Did you see the new Star Wars movie?”

Me: “Yes! Did you see the part in the credits where Baby Yoda gives birth to Han Solo?”

Friend: “That happened? I have to rewatch it!!!”

Then they go home and rewatch it, realize it wasn’t true, and that's fun.

I am not a bad person; I am a fun person—an incredible person. On the spot, I can, with a straight face, lie to people. It's an art, it's a gift, and most importantly, it’s fun.

My advice for a future liar:

The straight face is key, but your first couple lies should be ones where you are making it clear that you’re OBVIOUSLY lying. Maybe you laugh in the middle of the lie or you just give up at the end of the lie and admit you were lying. This is so people think it’s impossible for you to lie; this tricks them. Once you have that down, you start with the straight face and people actually believe you.

In the meantime, have fun joshing!!!
