Top 8 Dog Spots in NYC That Will Enhance Your Pets' City Life

It can seem extremely difficult to meet your dog's needs while living in a city. So many people are reluctant to get dogs while living in a city as apartments are small and there isn’t enough room for pet life. That was my family’s philosophy up until a few years ago when we realized it was possible to make it work—to live in a small space while keeping a happy puppy. There are hundreds of dog parks all over the city, which makes exercise easy. This list is full of places that will enhance your dog's city experience, from cafes to spas and daycare to dog parks. These are some of my favorites that both you and your dog will enjoy!

If you want to go all out for your pup on their special day or grab a much-deserved pick-me-up, Axel & Tia’s has got you covered. Only made with fresh ingredients, this dog and cat bakery is more affordable than most, customizable, and super cute. From treats to cakes, gift sets, and biscuits, they have unlimited possibilities for your pup’s taste buds on their website!

Looking to enjoy a tasty brunch out without having to leave your dog at home? This dog-friendly cafe and shop will provide you with a delicious meal, a spa day for your dog, and much more. Enjoy a coffee and some pancakes with your dog, then book grooming to finish off the day. They have an off-leash play area and a schedule of fun dog events.

Another great place to grab some food with your dog, Boris and Horton is New York's first dog-friendly cafe and remains highly praised and reviewed. Their calendar is packed with events at their cafe in addition to their drinks, baked goods, and dog treats.

If you are on the Upper East Side, you can’t go wrong with a walk through Central Park. Here you can check out their dog-friendly areas. You can find the best off-leash areas in Central Park. The park is huge and full of dogs who will love the escape from the city streets. And close by is a famous dog-friendly American restaurant, Barking Dog. They have dog-friendly patios for you to dine on and an inviting menu with classic American dishes.

Your dog will surely enjoy Madison Square Park's brand new renovated dog run. I went with my dog last fall and was surprised by its creative design. I appreciate the turf surface that prevents your dog from getting covered in dirt. There are hills and a running stream running through the entire area. I will mention the clear dangers I witnessed in dogs falling off the hills, so make sure your dog does not get too feisty up there!

Your dog may get a little dirty, but they will have a lot of fun at the Washington Square dog run. It’s my dog’s personal favorite, and she insists on going daily. It’s got a lot of space and plenty of benches for seating. There is also a water fountain and sprinklers for hotter days. Its downside is that it tends to lack ball supply.

When you're ready for some alone time and you need a place for your dog to stay the night or day, this place is on my list. At Camp Canine pups get three walks a day, lots of playtime, and close monitoring for their safety. They offer grooming services as well as cat services. Your pets will get full attention and care with clean beds and deluxe boarding options.

8. DOGMA

Another great boarding place where my pup has loads of fun is DOGMA. It’s not your typical dog play area, as it has a modern, clean vibe. It can get on the pricey side, and we wish they included more frequent walks, but they offer agility training sessions for your dog, riverside walks during the day, and private suites for the night. They will send daily pictures of your dog having fun or on walks and will include a letter written about your dog’s adventures that day. They are top-rated, and your dog will come back smelling like fresh flowers.
